The Ford Bronco at Mossy Ford

The Ford Bronco is back — and at Mossy Ford in Pacific Beach, it's been one of the most-requested models on our lot since the relaunch. There is no other body-on-frame SUV in the segment that combines authentic off-road capability with the configurability the Bronco offers: two-door or four-door, soft top or hard top, manual or automatic, mild trail trim or full-bore Raptor.

San Diego is one of the best Bronco markets in the country, and for obvious reasons. The Anza-Borrego Desert is 90 minutes east. Ocotillo Wells SVRA, with thousands of acres of legal off-highway terrain, is just past that. The Cleveland National Forest is in our backyard. The Baja peninsula is a short drive south. Mossy Ford customers buy Broncos to actually use them — and we stock the trims that match how San Diego drivers spec the truck.

Ford Bronco Trims

The Ford Bronco is offered in eight trim levels. Each is tuned for a different combination of comfort, capability, and price:

Bronco Base

Steel wheels, manual transmission available, the foundational off-road platform without the comfort packages. The honest, no-frills Bronco.

Bronco Big Bend

The volume seller. Adds alloy wheels, color-keyed fenders, upgraded infotainment, and the most popular configuration mix. Most San Diego retail buyers land here.

Bronco Black Diamond

Skid plates, rock rails, and heavy-duty equipment. The trim for buyers who plan to use the Bronco on rougher terrain without paying for the leather and tech of higher trims.

Bronco Outer Banks

The on-road-comfort Bronco. Leather seats, heated front rows, body-color hard top, and a more refined interior. Trades some hardcore off-road equipment for daily livability.

Bronco Badlands

Where the Bronco gets serious. Front-and-rear locking differentials, disconnecting front sway bar, off-road suspension, and the Sasquatch Package availability. The most-spec'd off-road Bronco trim.

Bronco Wildtrak

Sasquatch Package standard. 35-inch tires, beadlock-capable wheels, high-clearance fender flares. Built for high-speed desert running and the trim our Anza-Borrego customers ask for most.

Bronco Heritage Edition

Retro styling cues honoring the original first-generation Bronco — round headlights, white grille, color-matched steel wheels, throwback color palette. Available on Big Bend and Wildtrak.

Bronco Raptor

The pinnacle. High-output 3.0L EcoBoost producing 418 hp, FOX Live Valve internal-bypass shocks, 37-inch BFGoodrich KO2 tires, wider track. A purpose-built Baja runner you can drive home from the showroom.

Bronco Engines & Transmissions

The Ford Bronco lineup at Mossy Ford offers three engine choices:

  • 2.3L EcoBoost I4 — the standard powertrain across most trims. Strong low-end torque, available with a 7-speed manual transmission (rare in the SUV segment). The lighter-weight option for tighter trails.
  • 2.7L EcoBoost V6 — the upgrade engine for buyers who want more highway power and tow capability. Automatic-only, paired with the 10-speed transmission.
  • High-Output 3.0L EcoBoost V6 — exclusive to the Bronco Raptor. 418 horsepower, dedicated 10-speed automatic, and a Baja-tuned exhaust note.

Every Bronco comes with four-wheel drive as standard, with the choice of an advanced 4x4 system (Big Bend and up) that adds 4-Auto mode for on-road traction.

Ford Bronco Sport — The Compact Alternative

Shopping the Bronco but not sure you need the full body-on-frame off-roader? The Ford Bronco Sport is the unibody crossover companion to the Bronco — smaller, more efficient, easier to live with in San Diego traffic, but still tuned for trail use. The Bronco Sport offers trims like Big Bend, Outer Banks, and the trail-rated Badlands, all with standard 4x4 and G.O.A.T. Modes for varied terrain. It's the right answer for buyers who want Bronco DNA in a daily driver — coastal commutes, weekend camping, gear hauling — without the size or fuel-economy penalty of the full Bronco.

Bronco Configurations for San Diego Use Cases

For Anza-Borrego and the Baja peninsula

Wildtrak, Badlands, and Raptor are the go-to trims for the high-speed desert running that Anza-Borrego and Baja require. The Sasquatch Package (standard on Wildtrak and Raptor) adds 35-inch+ tires and high-clearance flares for the unimproved roads. Manual front sway bar disconnect on the Badlands is the single most-requested off-road feature for slow-speed trail work.

For coastal daily driving

The Big Bend and Outer Banks four-door configurations are the most popular among Pacific Beach, La Jolla, and Mission Hills buyers who want the Bronco's presence and lifestyle but spend most of their week on pavement. Removable doors and roof panels are still on the table — they just come off on weekends instead of every drive.

For the first-Bronco buyer

If this is your first Bronco, the Big Bend in four-door with the 2.3L EcoBoost and the optional Mid Package is the sweet spot. It captures the Bronco experience — open-air capability, real 4x4, distinct styling — without the price escalation of the higher trims.

Bronco FAQ

What Ford Bronco trims are available at Mossy Ford?

Mossy Ford carries the full Ford Bronco trim range including Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, Wildtrak, Heritage Edition, and the high-performance Bronco Raptor. Both two-door and four-door body styles are available across most trims, with multiple top, fender, and tire package options.

What is the difference between the Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport?

The Ford Bronco is a body-on-frame off-road SUV with available removable doors and roof panels, two-door and four-door body styles, and a focus on serious off-road capability. The Bronco Sport is a unibody crossover SUV built on the Escape platform — smaller, more city-friendly, and easier to live with daily, while still offering standard 4x4 and trail-rated trims like Badlands. Both are sold at Mossy Ford.

Does the Ford Bronco come with a manual transmission?

Yes. The Ford Bronco offers an available 7-speed manual transmission on select trims with the 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. The 7-speed manual includes a dedicated crawler gear for low-speed off-road control. The 10-speed automatic is the standard transmission across the lineup and is required with the 2.7L EcoBoost V6.

What engine options does the Ford Bronco offer?

The Ford Bronco offers a 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder and a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 across most trims. The Bronco Raptor uses a unique high-output 3.0L EcoBoost V6 producing 418 horsepower. All Bronco engines drive four-wheel drive as standard.

Is the Bronco a good off-road vehicle for the San Diego area?

Yes. The Bronco is purpose-built for off-road use and the San Diego area offers exceptional terrain to use it — Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Ocotillo Wells SVRA, the Cleveland National Forest, and the Baja peninsula are all within easy driving distance of Pacific Beach. Trim choice matters: Badlands, Wildtrak, and Raptor are the most off-road-capable, while Big Bend and Black Diamond handle moderate trails comfortably.

Can I lease a Ford Bronco at Mossy Ford?

Yes. Mossy Ford offers lease and finance programs on new Ford Bronco trucks across most trims. Current lease and finance terms are posted on our new vehicle specials page. Call 858-273-7500 to speak with the finance team about Bronco lease options.
