What is an ITIN Number?

People in the United States typically use their social security number to file for taxes, however non-citizens working in the U.S. use a different form of identification from the IRS known as an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number also known as an ITIN. The good news is that it is possible to apply for an auto loan with your ITIN

Ford Credit is Committed to Provided Support Financing Customers with Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN)

Ford Credit’s non-citizen applicant review process in an additional step we take to help Ford and Lincoln dealers deliver vehicles and be the reason customers choose and stay with Ford. Applicants without a social security number may apply for new retail or lease approval with Ford Credit under standard criteria.

Under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Ford Credit reviews all applications submitted for vehicle financing. Applicants, including non-US citizen applicants and those assigned an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), may be asked to supply documented proof of income, residency, and/or other supporting documents for review. Below is a non-exhaustive list of example documents our dealer partners may submit along with offer submissions, or upon request, for decisioning:

  • Proof of Income: Copy of W-2; tax returns (1040/1040A); or bank statements
  • Proof of Residency: Copy of lease or deed
